Happy? Anniversary

Not sure about you, but when I hear the word "anniversary" I immediately think of a wedding anniversary. For a married couple, the anniversary is that all-important date of when you were married. Husbands...don't EVER forget that date!

Over the last few weeks, I have been reminded that not all anniversaries are reasons for celebration. Often, anniversaries are reminders of painful events in our life: the death of a loved one, the date of a surgery or illness, and even anniversaries of national tragedies like 9/11.

This summer, Heather and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary on July 27! However, a few short weeks later, we endured the 2 year anniversary of Heather's confession of infidelity. It was really a two day process, August 23 and August 26, as those were the two days that things unfolded. Those two anniversaries certainly stirred up some painful memories.

Through the pain, we had reason to celebrate this year. Here are just a few reasons:

1. God has transformed our marriage over the last 2 years!
2. God has drawn both Heather and me to Himself over the last 2 years, and we are walking closer with Him than ever before.
3. The one year anniversary of Heather's baptism on August 26 now overshadows the anniversary of 2 years ago.

So, we celebrate God's faithfulness in the midst of a painful anniversary.
